Ms. Nikki shares with us her recipe for green thumbs as demonstrated Sunday, April 18th, 2010 with the Kids Club at Whole Foods / Metairie:
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
- Washed/cleaned tin cans from soup, vegetables, et al
- rock pebbles
- Compost from Whole Foods
- Seeds (rosemary, thyme, basil, cilantro, parsley, etc)
- 6" wide x 12" long strip of burlap
- Glue gun (adult supervision required)
- Labels or popsicle sticks to mark what is planted
Wrap burlap around clean tin can and seal with glue gun. Take tin can and drop a handful of pebble rocks to fill bottom of can. Add compost halfway. Drop in seeds. Add more compost. Label with herb names.
PLANTS/HERBS IN BIODEGRADABLE CUPS
Leave in Burlap wrap for 2 days. To transfer to garden or pot, place entire cup, soil, and seeds in ground in moderate sunlight.
Lightly water every day for a week, then every other day eventually watering twice a week. To aid in growing, moisten burlap and place over soil for about a week. Keep burlap moist for best results.
PLANTS/HERBS IN RECYCLED CAN
Lightly water every other day and keep in window with sunlight.
May be taken outside for direct sun a few times a week.
Be careful not to over water.
